RutOS İşletim Sistemi ile Kullanım Kolaylığı

Ease of Use with RutOS Operating System

Advantages of RutOS

With Teltonika Networks, we create industrial network devices designed for the development of professional application scenarios. One of our goals is to make these products easy to use for everyone, from highly experienced engineers to casual consumers without technical knowledge. Being able to offer products that do not require any special training is one of our greatest competitive advantages and we are proud of that.

Basic and Advanced Modes

RutOS is a user-friendly web interface that can be used in basic or advanced mode. Choosing Basic has more preconfigured features and fewer editing options, so there is less room for errors and significantly reduces setup time. In case the default option does not suit you, you can define custom rules in the advanced settings option. As a result, when the basic mode is selected, our devices can be configured without any special training. Separating these two modes allows us to provide broad functionality and full access to complex features while simultaneously offering simple configuration.

Multi User

While developing RutOS, the main target was usually for different users, so it was made functional with different access rights. While the administrator can make all necessary configurations and changes to the system, read-only mode should be sufficient for the rest of the employees.

This functionality is also important when the router is provided to the end user by a network operator or reseller, such as a distributor. Although they are responsible for any network connection configuration issues, they usually define different usage rights for various users.

Configuration Profiles

Profiles provide a way to create multiple sets of device configurations and apply them to the router according to different user needs. Configuration options are incredibly flexible and can be changed via SMS utilities, Inputs/Outputs or Web Interface. There is also the possibility of setting up a schedule for when the router should use one set or the other via the Profile Scheduler.

Different profiles can completely change the operation of the product at different times. Profiles can be used to change VPN Firewall settings, enable or disable SIM cards or set them according to various users and scenarios. For example, a specific profile can be programmed to turn off the lighting, ventilation systems or Wi-Fi outside of working hours in a public facility, resulting in cost savings without requiring human input.

Mobile Data Limits

Mobile data limits and SMS alerts can also be set in RutOS to avoid unwanted data charges. Data delimiters can be easily configured via the Web Interface for the desired time range (day, week or month). An SMS will be sent when 80% of the data is exhausted.

Automatic APN

Most carriers use global APN values as a way to identify their clients among the numerous cellular connections they manage. APN values allow operators to provide different services such as Public IP address. However, when you don't have an APN value assigned, some carriers require it to connect after the SIM card is inserted into a device. RutOS offers automatic APN selection where the router will choose the correct APN value depending on the mobile operator. This allows for hands-free deployment and eliminates the need to provide specific instructions for end users creating a solution with Teltonika Networks gateways or routers.

HotStop

RutOS hotspot functionality provides network and internet access to wireless devices. You may have used access points at airports, shopping malls or other establishments where visitors usually receive free wi-fi in exchange for some contact or personal information (such as email, age and/or gender). RutOS hotspot has various management options to monitor and authenticate wi-fi users. You can configure restrictions on speed, data usage, duration of sessions, or you can only allow access to certain websites (or otherwise block some of the sites) and set up an external login page to collect marketing data.

Teltonika Networks routers have their own hotspot functionality with a wide range of control parameters and a customizable landing page. It can add a company logo, various design elements, and related information to a hotspot homepage. However, it also easily integrates with various third-party dependent portals such as Cloud4Wi, HotspotSystem, MugiCloud, SAI + WiFi and others, so you have the freedom to choose the best one in your own solution.

I/O Juggler

Almost every Teltonika Networks product has Inputs and Outputs (I/O) for convenient monitoring, control of connected devices or receiving signals from that device to trigger certain events. I/O Juggler allows any script to be started with a router. The script defines scenarios of what will happen with each I/O when certain conditions are met and notifies the administrator by email or SMS or even activate a device over IP. Using this function allows setting a variety of different rules and also triggers an output when a full sequence of actions occurs at a given time. For example, a thermostat is connected to the inlet of a device and if it is activated during working hours, it opens the ventilation (ie the outlet). However, when it is activated outside of working hours, the ventilation is not started.

Packaging Manager

Package Manager is a service used to install additional software modules that can be downloaded from the server. It is also possible to install packages offline via install. Essentially, this feature helps to keep the essentials on a router with limited space and only the ones relevant to your solution. Currently, you can choose from ZeroTier, TR-069, The Cloud of Things, AzureIoThub, Cumulocity, ThingWorx, NTPD, and WireGuard. As you may notice, RutOS is compatible with a variety of cloud solutions, giving you the freedom to choose the one that works best for your business.

Finally, besides the features described above, RutOS offers real-time graphs showing various statistical data changes such as load times, traffic and network connections. Along with the event log, which is also available in RutOS, you can get a very accurate overview of what is happening on your router at a given time.
